Today I get to review two more books in Nicole O'Dell's Scenarios for Girls series. I am really excited about this opportunity not only because I want to give you the scoop about a unique Christian series for tween girls, but because Nicole is a friend of mine and I even critiqued a portion of these books for her. How cool is that?
If you'd like to read my review of the first two books in this series, Truth or Dare and All that Glitters, click HERE.
First, a little about the series:
Decisions, decisions! How is a girl supposed to choose? Lessons of right and wrong are put to the test in the Scenarios series, where you can test your decision-making abilities in an eye-opening, but safe, way. Each book follows a character up to the point where she has to make an important, life-changing decision—then it’s your turn to choose. Will your choices lead to a happy ending?
Now a synopsis of the third and fourth books in the Scenarios series:
In Magna, Molly Jacobs isn’t sure what she should do: Should she follow through with stealing some clothes for her friends from Magna the trendy girls clothing store where she works? Or should she do what she knows is right, even if it means losing her friends?
In Making Waves, Kate Walker joins the swim team and becomes obsessed with practice and making it through the championships with flying colors. With a scholarship on the line and pressure from everyone, what will Kate do when she’s faced with pressure from her teammates to take an illegal substance that will help her swim multiple events in their championship meet?
My thoughts:
Each of these books are fast-paced and held my interest. The challenges that Molly and Kate face (stealing and taking illegal drugs) are real and relevant for today's girls. The faith thread is woven throughout. These are girls who are Christians, yet are met with temptation and forced to make a choice. Can't get more real or relevant than that!
I absolutely love the point where the character comes to the fork in the road and needs to make a tough decision. Will she do what's right or will she succumb to temptation and make a poor choice? Included at the end of each book are three chapters that tell what happens when she makes the right choice and then three chapters that relay the results and consequences of making the wrong choice. Nicole does a wonderful job of showing the distinct differences of each choice and how the outcome affects these girls' lives. I have no doubt that these books have already helped more than a few girls take a closer look at the path they are traveling and consider the choices they'll make if faced with the same temptations.
I'd love to give you a copy of Magna and Making Waves so you can pass them along to a tween girl in your life. Leave a comment on this blog post and you'll automatically be in the running to win both of these books! Deadline to enter is 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 6th, when a winner will be randomly selected. I will announced the winner on Friday's blog post.
In the meantime, watch the book trailer for the Scenarios for Girls series:

I would love to read those books! They look great, and Nicole is such a blessing.
I would love these for my 12 year old! And to be able to pass them on to my other daughter when she's older!
Hi Lynda! Just wanted to say thanks for stopping by my blog the other day! Just finished my Genesis entries and turned them in! Whew! Was a great experience, but boy did it take some time! :-)
Blessings!
These books sound great - my girls would love them!
These books sound amazing. All of my kids are swimmers. The pressure to do well is incredible.
Those books sound amazing! I don't have a tween daughter anymore, but I have a skimpy tween shelf in my church library, and we have lots of tween girls I love to pieces who like to read. Sweet!
Wow. I didn't know such book existed! My teenage granddaughter is having a hard time and this series might be just the trick to get her through. Thank you for the review.

My own daughter just turned 19 and asked for an ESV Bible. She's a little too "mature" for this tweens series, but I KNOW the girls in my 5th grade Sunday School class would love something new to read. I work in a public library, and I have to tell you that it breaks my heart to see some of the books checked out by young girls. Thank you, Ms. O'Dell, for writing books which are appropriate for tweens!
I'd love to win this for my 11 year old granddaughter! She's been telling us she was a 'tween since before she turned 10!
Sounds like a great book for my neice.
Please sign me up for the drawing!
Thanks,
Ann
