I'm kicking myself. On Friday, I posted "The Week in Review" but now that August has ended (can you believe it?) I'm thinking it would be kind of fun to post a monthly "Month in Review" at the end of each month, where we can share our monthly accomplishments, miscellaneous cool stuff we did during the previous month, and even our goals for the next month.
So, bear with me as I post a general review of last month. I'd love to hear all the fun things and successes you had, too, so please join me in celebrating August!
- Participated in The 99 - a reality walk-through theater, in which thousands gave their hearts to Christ. It was an amazing experience and if The 99 ever comes to your city, I strongly encourage you to get involved.
- Hosted a Silpada jewelry party and got some really cool stuff!
- Attended the FaithWriters conference and faced (and conquered) my biggest fear of public speaking by teaching two workshops. Due to the power of prayer, it went great!
- Was an extra in Touchback, a film starring Kurt Russell. I, along with nine kids ages 12-16, sat in the football stands from 9pm until 6am, cheering for the "Coldwater Bears." Look for me among hundreds of fans when the movie releases in 2011!
- Celebrated 22 years of marriage! My husband and I got away for a nice (and much needed) weekend.
- Received 1 proposal rejection for Mind over Madi.
- Had to cancel my ACFW conference. Still crying over this.... :-(
- Submitted several articles for possible publication.
- August was the first full month of my new blog, Great Christian Book Giveaways. If you're looking for opportunities for free books, check it out!
I also intend on soaking up everything I missed at the ACFW conference. Can't wait to read recaps of classes, testimonies of God-anointed appointments, and cheer with my fellow writers when they receive agent and editor requests and contracts!
AND, I am really hoping that September is the month I hit 200 blog followers. Only 2 more to go...
Oh - and I really need to start some sort of exercise routine. All of those summer cook-outs and trips to the ice cream stand really took a toll.
YOUR TURN! What were the highlights of your month?
What are your goals for September?

August was full of beach and fun for my kids. Can't believe school is about to start for them. :O)
Praying you through, dear Lynda. I LOVE the goals/progress posts. Makes me see where I've been and keep my eyes on where I'm going.
My post is up at my blog :) http://www.joannesher.com/2010/09/whirlwinds-and-change-goalsprogress.html
I definitely need to finish edits on an old ms and write The END on a new(ish) one that I'd hoped to finish this month! Yikes!
But August was full of other interesting things... lots of new friends, great performance opportunities, and family get-togethers.
Here's to a productive September!
Lynda, I'm writing like never before and would love to be an accountability partner with you. I've pounded out nearly 14,000 words in just the last two weeks, this with no target or goal other than to write something every day. No excuses. Last night I was typing away around midnight, but I got it in.
Good for you, Patricia! What a word count! Definitely feel free to kick me in the pants (but no steel-toed shoes, please). I'll do the same. Maybe we can do a daily (or weekly?) check-in through Facebook or by email. :-)
Thanks for the prayers, Jo!
Faith - clinking my glass to a productive month!
Hey, Lynda! Nice list of accomplishments for the month!
I got an agent in August, edited Pineapples in Peril and Menehunes Missing so one of the three main characters is a boy (first 2 of The Hawaiian Island Detective Club Series.), started a blog, Life in Flip-Flops, and managed to get 22 followers!! Yay!
Someday I'll tell you about my time spent with Kurt Russell!!
Oooh, Cheryl! Now I'm dying to know about your time with Kurt Russell! A little jealousy, here... LoL
Congrats on getting an agent. That's awesome!
Hi Linda -
Congrats on your anniversary. You had an exciting month. Sorry about ACFW. I can't go either.
For me the highlight of August was an agent request for my full manuscript. I also started a second blog, and I'm wondering how I'm going to manage them both.
Blessings,
Susan :)
Congratulations on getting a full manuscript request, Susan! I'll be sure to check out your blogs. :-)
Your month soundes much busier than mine! Not even sure what I did. Went to the beach finally. Sent my book to an editor for edits. Wrote lots on a new book. Ummm--boring life huh?
Hi Lynda! Saw your comment on my Hoosier Ink post and wanted to say hello! I'm sorry I won't get to meet you at the conference. :( You're a fellow Genesis finalist, right?
Love the idea of reflecting on each month! As far as your goal to exercise, I just happen to be doing a blog post on that a week from Mon. on my personal blog. :)
Good luck on your word-count goals!
Oooh, Sarah. I'll definitely have to check out your post a week from Monday.
And yes, I am a fellow Genesis finalist. Bummed I won't be at the awards banquet this year. :-( Cheer really loud when they call my name, ok? You can cheer because we're in different categories. :-)
Hope to meet you next year!
So glad to hear your speaking went well, Lynda. Not surprised, though. :-) Sounds like you had a (mostly) fantastic month! Congrats on your anniversary. And how fun about being an extra. :-)
August was full of line edits and non-writing projects. I went a little crazy with spray paint and looking up do-it-yourself blogs. Now...time to dive back into the writing.
