Seasons Change

Well, today starts a new season for me. The consignment store where I've worked for the last 10 years is going out of business. Yesterday was my last day. It feels kind of strange knowing that not only am I done working there, but the store won't even be a store anymore. I've shopped there for my kids since they were little. Got lots of great deals and adorable clothes. But, sigh...another Michigan business bites the dust. Unfortunately, this time it affects me.

So now I have to figure out what I'm going to do. Should I look for another outside job to make up for the consistent paycheck no longer coming in? Or should I really hit the freelance circuit and see about finding online work? Or should I just write, write, write and submit, submit, submit, hoping to make some extra sales?

Hmmm....I can't help thinking that a contract would be nice about now.

Double sigh...

Anyway, I have to admit, I'm a little excited about beginning this new life chapter. I'm trusting that God will work it all out (as He always does) and give me direction. In the meantime, if you know of anything out there, I'd love to know about it. Or, hey...while I'm asking, if you're a philanthropist and feel like throwing a bit of change my way, I won't mind.

Q4U: Do you work to supplement your writing? If so, what do you do?

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't work, but if I did I would go back to working as a pharmacist. Right now I'm staying home for the kidlet.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this, honey. You have a great attitude, trusting the Lord to help you through this.

Yes, I work as a manager of an office supply store. If the store closed, I'd have to find another job, since I make the car payments. Plus, I have to buy hair color and cat food!!!

I will pray for open doors for new income for you.

Blessings,
Jen

You have a great attitude Lynda and I'm sure God has GREAT plans for you :) I work PT in our family business as well as freelance PT. There is plenty of work out there for you if'n you feel led that way!

Definitely sorry to hear it (especially since I never DID get over there to check it out! ::wink::), but I'm sure God will lead you.

I've been doing editing/proofreading to support my habit (LOL and my family...). I actually just had an AMAZINGLY fun time in my son's 4th grade class doing editing appointments with a couple of the kids, helping them proofread their first drafts (free - but it felt like something I could do FOREVER).

I work PT for a church while my son is still in school. I think Joanne's helping in school proofreading is a wonderful idea that I might pull out next year. There is adventure and challenge ahead for you, godspeed.

Linda, it's always a little scary when facing that "done with the job" thing. I struggled with that at my last job, wanting to let go or hold on to it.

I'm so glad now that I'm a stay-at-home writer, altho I totally understand those who have to work.

Good attitude, and God will lead you in the right direction for you!

Oh dear, I hope you don't get too stressed about it. Sounds like you have some options. And more time to write is never a bad thing. =)
I am blessed to be able to write a lot. I homeschool so I'm at my computer in the school room a lot.

I'm sorry to hear the store has gone out of business. Like you, I'm sure others will miss it too. I hope you continue to have trust and a heartful of hope all will work out to His perfect plan for you. I work full-time in the dental field, and writing is still a dream that slowly I am creating to be more.

Thanks for all of your comments. I'm not totally stressing out about it because I do have some income from freelancing, but I do know I need something more. Like Jeanette mentioned, hair color (and for me, movies, not cat food :-)) are very important! j
