No more fat pants
So I bit the bullet and signed up (again) for Weight Watchers Online. Hey, it works when I actually stick to it. And I am determined to stick to it this time.
And today I begin...
In my Madi series, Madi's go-to food when she's feeling stressed, bored, or just plain hungry, is Edy's Dibs. Have you ever tried those things? Yum! There are a bazillion flavors and there's no way you can eat just a couple. Break out the giant ice cream bowl and fill-er-up. Or, better yet, just eat right out of the carton.
As much as I love Edy's Dibs, my personal temptation is regular ice cream. Any flavor will do, but I'm partial to anything of the vanilla variety (cookie dough, cookies and cream, just plain vanilla) as long as it is drenched in Hershey's Syrup. It doesn't help that my husband works for a dairy company and during the holidays brought home a 3-gallon tub (do you know how HUGE that is?) of Hudsonville Cookie Dough. Well, my daughter helped a little, but let's just say I way overdosed on ice cream - plus went through 2 bottles of Hershey's syrup - in less than 3 weeks. Yes, it does embarrass me to admit it, but there it is.
But no more. The tub of ice cream is history and my freezer and fridge are both stocked with Weight Watchers meals and other healthy foods. The only ice cream allowed in my house are the Weight Watchers desserts. At least with those, there's portion control.
By the end of Mind over Madi, Madi shows signs of getting a grip on her Edy's Dibs addiction. Although I know she'll slip up, and she's not eliminating sweets completely from her diet, it's a start.
What about you? What is your go-to food addiction? Do you prefer rich and creamy or salty and crunchy? And the better question...what, if anything, are you doing to get your addiction under control?

I'm not partial to anything peanut buttery. I *have* been known to eat Hershey's Syrup from a spoon if I can't find any M&M's in the house. I've pretty much conquered the M&M thing, though. Now just a few are satisfying. Except I forgot to tell my daughter. She got me this huge motion detector globe thingie filled with M&M's. The thing that's saving me, though, is that they are Detroit Tiger M&M's. I can't eat a Tiger. :)
Love your new blog schedule! So proud of you. I remember your concern back in September about what was going on with your book. Look at you now!
I'm a salty and crunchy go to gal or a comfort food addict. What am I doing? Learning to become a woman of moderation. I did a wonderful study by Dee Brestin called A Woman of Moderation and it changed the way I see food. I struggle every stinking day. Food is the thorn in my flesh, but God's mercies are new every morning. :) Good for you, Lynda! And no, I've never tried an Edy's Dib before. :)
Thank you so much, Sandy! I hope to see you again at the next Chapter meeting/conference. Glad you got the M&M thing under control. :-)
Jessica, I do go for salty sometimes, depending on my mood. Great point about moderation. Balance is key! One of these days, you'll have to try an Edy's Dib, just to say you tried one. :-)
I like sweet, then salty and crunchy to wash it down with.
Hubby and I are walking more, and watching our diet since the holidays.
I loved Madi! Sorry I didn't get to it before the holidays to join your blog tour. December was crazy, as January is also turning out to be.
Great book! You're a great writer.
Thanks, Loree. No problem about the tour. If you ever want to have me on your blog, I'm up for it. :-) Glad you liked Mind over Madi. I appreciate your thoughts.
I can so relate! Trying desperately to reclaim my skinny!! Thank you for the info and encouragement from FaithWriters!

PS...my word verification for this comment is "strip", to which I boldly reply...NO!! ;)
Almost anything chocolate will do it for me, although I am partial to Mars bars or a big box of Smarties.
I remember searching my mom's kitchen as a teenager, salivating in my need for chocolate... any sort of chocolate. All I could find was bittersweet baking squares - yanno the kind that looks and smells like chocolate, but is actually some sort of evil imposter? But I was desperate (for whatever reason), so I ate 'em. Ugh.
I could sure go for a 3-gallon tub of cookie dough ice cream, though. BOOM.
Cheers for your re-commitment to WW. It really, really does work.
Oooh...Mars bars. Haven't had one of those in forever. And Smarties...love those things!
Fast food and caramel sugary coffee drinks are my go to yummies! I've lost 65 pounds in this last year by giving up tons of these vices. Packing a lunch everyday for work with good choices and drinking diet pop has really helped me stay on track. Having a day to indulge in what I want actually helps me stay sane! Lots of hard work, but it's great to have some good self esteem again! Good luck to everyone!
Are you kidding, Diane? 65 pounds? WOW! SO proud of you! We've got to get together one of these days so I can see how amazing you look. :-)
Hands down, ice cream and potato chips are my binge foods.
I love sweet and creamy as well as crunchy and salty. It really doesn't matter. I simply love to eat.
Writing down my food plan helps tremendously. Plus, preparing food ahead of time so that last minute graby anything does not happen.
Good luck, Lynda. Weight Watchers is good. Susan
Good for you, Lynda! I love anything sweet, so I really have to work hard to control my intake.
Wishing you success (and Madi too!)
Thank you! Yes, journaling is huge. It also helps to focus on what you can (are going to) eat instead of what you can't. Something about "I can't have that" seems to make us want it all the more. Oh, such weak people we are. :-)
I do weight watchers too. I can't bring myself to long in again though. I have been off of the wagon for a bit now! I just finished a tub of peppermint moose tracks ice cream. No more for me either!
You can do it, Betty! We all have to start somewhere. I weighed in (at home) on Monday heavier than I've ever been (almost as heavy as when I gave birth to my kids 15 and 18 years ago. Yikes!) But I'm determined not to ever see that number again. It's really a matter of mind-set. Once you make up your mind and have a goal, it makes it easier. Not that we'll never slip up, but we'll have the motivation to get back on the wagon. :-)
