BOOK GIVEAWAY - Hidden in the Hymns

I'll be honest ... I didn't know what to blog about today. So I thought I'd scour my bookshelf and see if there was a good book I could offer as a giveaway. I love giving away free stuff, especially to you guys, who take precious time out of your day to read my blog!

So as I was reviewing the books on my shelf, I noticed I had a duplicate of one of the FaithWriters anthologies, Hidden in the Hymns.

PERFECT!

This is a wonderful anthology of the top 10 FaithWriters Weekly Writing Challenge entries for the quarterly theme filled with topics taken from classic hymns. Topics like CROSS, VISION, VALLEY, MELODY, and six more! This is FaithWriters eleventh anthology and includes 54 award-winning authors and over 100 inspirational stories, poems, and articles that are sure to bless your socks off. As stated on the back cover, even if you can't carry a tune, this book will leave your heart singing.

Four of my works are included in this book and I'd love to share them with you. Here's what you need to do to be entered in this drawing:

Leave a comment letting me know your favorite hymn. I will randomly select one winner from all of the comments received. Deadline is midnight, next Thursday, May 28. I will list the winner on next Friday's blog posting.

Good luck!

Thanks for letting us know about this book--it sounds like something my dad would love! As for a favorite hymn, How Great Thou Art is one of my favorites :)

It's hard to choose one favorite, as there are so many I love (and it's such a shame so many churches have abandoned them today).

I think I have to say, though, that "Come Thou Fount" would rank as my favorite.

Don't enter me - cuz I already have it! (LOL and if I DID win, I'd have to give it away in my OWN blog contest! I got a story in there too) - but I love SO many Hymns. Amazing Grace, As The Deer, It Is Well - you name it! Whenever I hear a new one, my favorite will often change LOL

I decided if I won, it would make a good gift, since I already have it. :)

"Blessed Assurance" has been one of my favorites always. I have lots of favorites, but this is the first one that came to mind. I love Third Day's version.

Sorry your blog is giving you problems!

"Come Thou Fount" and "I Need Thee Every Hour" are my faves.

Any time I feel a spiritual disconnect, I just pop in either or both of these and am reconnected instantly.

Though I love the song "Oh, How I Love Jesus", I think my favorite is "Peace Be Still." I love the way it crescendos with the storm-tossed sea then quiets with Jesus' words. So like life getting out of hand until we go to Him with our problems and finally can experience His peace.

And no, your old Mom is no writer, but I sure would love that book.

Confession: I don't really know any hymns. I stopped going to a hymn-singing church when I was about nine years-old, so I don't really remember any.

I do like "How Great Thou Art". I used it for inspiration, rearranged the words and music, and "wrote" a song based on it. The new arrangement makes it easier for me to remember the words :)

I have two favorites, at least. They would be "Amazing Grace" and "Because He Lives".

Oh, it's so hard to say really isn't it? Reading through some of the others...they're all at the top of the list.

*O LOVE THAT WILL NOT LET ME GO*

I have clung to the truth in that hymn through some mighty storms.

It is absolutely TRUE.
*O LOVE THAT WILL NOT LET ME GO*

Thanks, Lynda! :)

So many great ones to choose from, but 'Be Thou My Vision' is one dear to my heart. I sang it to my children as a lullaby when they were littler.

For an older traditional hymn, my favorite is "It Is Well." We have some wonderful modern hymns as well, and my favorite of these is "In Christ Alone."

'The Old Rugged Cross'. That song still gives me goosebumps when I sing it today. Seems as the years go by, it's meaning keeps on growing.
I love Christian rock. 'Need to Breathe' is my favorite group, with 'Washed by the Waters', my favorite song. But no other song can 'rock' my soul, like 'The Old Rugged Cross'.

"Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong,
They are weak but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so."

"In Christ Alone"
Words and Music by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend
Copyright © 2001 Kingsway Thankyou Music

In Christ alone my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all—
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, Who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save.
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied;
For ev'ry sin on Him was laid—
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory,
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am His and He is mine—
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death—
This is the pow'r of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home—
Here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand.

I LOVE the hymns, and my favorite is "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." Also, I get shivers when I hear or sing "His Eye Is on the Sparrow."
Thanks for your contests!

It's so hard to choose but I would have to say "His Eye Is On The Sparrow." It's interesting to see everyone's pick.

I don't know the actual title name, but my mom used to sing it when I was little:
"I come to the garden alone, when the dew is still on the roses....
and He walks with me,
and He talks with me,
and He tells me I am His own."

I can still hear Mom singing it while she was ironing, etc. (yes, ironing!)

Thank you, Lynda

"Under His Wings" is mine....it's a more obscure hymn but I love the words.
